This CPDU is concerned with expanding the teaching and learning opportunities in primary science for both student teachers and experienced classroom teachers. It illustrates student teacher / classroom teacher teams working together via coteaching to provide a more effective science learning environment for the children, whilst learning a lot from each other.

In the first part, we describe and illustrate the process of coteaching, including video clips which show different ways that student teacher and classroom teacher teams work together in the teaching of investigative primary science.

Then, coteaching is explored in more detail, to show the experience of student teachers, classroom teachers and children. We also consider the benefits of coteaching for initial teacher education and for primary schools.

Finally, we illustrate different models of coteaching which we have observed in practice. Student / teacher teams tend to use a combination of these models in each lesson, depending upon the topic and teaching approach they are using.
