Planning and learning intentions

The two Foundation Stage settings in this PDU unit have been working on what things are made of and what they can do. This will support the Knowledge and Understanding Early Learning Goal 'to investigate objects and materials by using all the senses as appropriate'.

As part of the planning each teacher has had to decide what the specific learning intentions will be within the focus Early Learning Goals. This PDU covers the science learning intentions for a week. In science the teachers covered:

• Key science language
• Science ideas or concepts
• Science skills.

Foundation Stage teachers need to have a good grasp of science knowledge. It is difficult to plan and prepare for every eventuality as children's interest and questions can be wide ranging.

The teachers also planned for other Areas of Learning such as literacy and creative development but these are not covered in detail in this PDU.
