Foundation setting 1: The activities


There are teacher-led and planned play activities that will lead to the learning intentions.

Two teacher-led and two planned play activities are shown below.

Testing parachutes: teacher-led activity

The teacher helped the children to choose a material as a parachute. They could choose from foil, wood, paper and Plasticine. Then they compared how a doll fell with and without this parachute.

Sorting materials: teacher-led activity

This activity supported both mathematics and science. The children sorted materials into things that are bendy and things that are not bendy.

Testing boats: planned play activity

As a teacher-led activity, the day before the children had talked about the materials they had been given. They had chosen one to make a boat. They could choose from the materials of foil, wood, paper and Plasticine. But of course different materials are suitable for different jobs. On this day the children were able to play with their boats without an adult being present.

Moon rocket: role-play

The adults built a moon rocket with children who had helped to choose the materials for it.
