Foundation setting 2: The Activities


There are teacher-led and planned play activities that led to the learning intentions.

Two teacher-led and two planned play activities are shown below.

Testing strength of walls: teacher-led activity

This activity enabled the children to handle different materials, think about strength and stability as well as practising prediction and testing under the guidance of a teacher.

List of tools and equipment for building a house: teacher-led activity

This was a literacy and science activity. The literacy task was to create a list. The children were given tools to look at and talk about so that they could make a list of tools for building a house.

Discovery table: planned play

A variety of items and materials were set out including bricks, wood, plastic and straw for the children to feel and handle.

This play was supported by a teacher who modelled activity and promoted language.
