Trust Projects - York City Cluster

Schools Learning Together is the aim of thirteen primary, two infant and a special school who seek to boost levels of attainment in science to the highest levels consistent with pupils' potential and maturity. It will build on the current 'partnership teaching' within and across schools in the city of York.

Programme

The programme is based on the Bretton Hall model. This version offers eight full days training in the first year. The focus is scientific enquiry and cognitive abilities to help pupils experience the 'big ideas' of science. This thrust should boost attainment at levels 3/5 in Key Stages 1/2 respectively. Those involved would share expertise via an subject programme, national science weeks and an SLT Website.

Science co-ordinators may register their work for accreditation through M.Ed modules. Anticipated outcomes include pupils making two or more levels' progress within a key stage, improved quality of teaching and science leadership, improved attitudes of pupils to science, and improved use of ICT by teachers.
