Progression in Science
There have been a huge number of strategies and initiatives over recent years to support improving children's literacy skills targeted towards both primary and secondary schools and these have provided some excellent resources. However, it is still quite common to observe lessons where teachers and their pupils do not have a clear vision of what one has to do to make progress in Science. Our problem is that the curriculum has so much material to cover and is often seen as a series of separate unrelated topics and enquiries.
The CHSC have developed the Levels Mountains and Literacy Ladder as practical tools to help teachers and children to visualise the thinking skills and what it feels like to make progression in Science.
