CSI Cannock Science Investigators

CSI Cannock Science Investigators

Project Summary

This cluster school project developed a CSI project which provided a link between a career which has a scientific background, and a positive engagement factor for year 6 pupils as part of transition.  Year 6 pupils submitted work was assessed against national curriculum levels.  A day-long CSI training session was held for staff from both junior schools in the techniques which were being developed during the project and schools were able to borrow equipment to run their own activities. In-service was run to help teachers to fully understand the techniques so that they could assist pupils when they completed their assessment activity later in the year.  Staff were also introduced to the assessment tracking website provided by the Learning Company, to support pupils transferring from Key Stage 2 to 3.

Additional

This project engages KS2 pupils with science at High School using Forensic Science workshops.  Science staff, science co-ordinators and Year 6 teachers have collaborated to develop a sequence of lessons and an e-portfolio assessment activity.  Pupils use a Problem-Based Learning approach within a science context, developing PLTS skills.
