Salford LEA (Cluster Project)

Trust Projects - Salford Cluster

Salford LEA seeks to support fourteen primary schools in this cluster. The cluster is located within the Greater Manchester conurbation and is characterised by considerable deprivation.

Programme

Programme

The programme has two main thrusts:

  • training for science co-ordinators and other key teachers
  • the development of 'family' learning activities.

In term 1, training will be dedicated to science and consultants will be brought in. In terms 2 & 3 training will focus on individual needs as negotiated with schools and course facilitators. The main training element will be based on SPE's Making Sense of Science materials and will employ a local HEI to facilitate their use. In terms of outcomes it is anticipated that, inter alia, standards of science achievement will be raised in the project schools in 2001, children's scientific enquiry skills will be enhanced and that knowledge and confidence in teaching science will be improved.
