West Lothian (Cluster Project)
Trust Projects - West Lothian Cluster
The West Lothian cluster involves sixteen primary schools all of which have identified science as a priority in their school development plans.
Programme
There are three phases planned into the programme.
Phase 1 (Aug-Sept) auditing of current science. Each cluster will determine its priorities for development and agree a science slot per week to effect a balanced curriculum.
Phase 2 (Oct-March) training and implementation over 6 twilight sessions on curriculum planning, improvement in teaching and learning, staff development and the use of resources.
Phase 3 (April-June) completion of training, pupil assessment, final evaluation. The principal aims are to raise the profile of science, improve the confidence of science co-ordinators, improve knowledge of SC1 and increase the level of 'hands-on' practical work the children undertake. It is anticipated that as a result pupils' ability to investigate will be developed.
