Abstract

This paper considers the role of computer conferencing in the enhancement of coteaching between student and classroom teachers. It explores the use of a virtual learning environment (VLE) to promote discussion at a distance between students and teachers outside school. For coteaching to be effective, the partners plan, teach and evaluate together (Murphy et al 2004).

This project sought to determine whether a VLE was effective in promoting joint planning and evaluation between students and teachers at a distance to supplement the face-to-face work. The paper specifically considers the learning experience from the perspective of the students in terms of: ease of use of the VLE , communicating with peers, teachers and subject matter experts (SMEs) using the VLK and the contribution of computer-conferencing to coteaching.
